We had a great Christmas. The kids got lots and lots of goodies from us, Santa, and relatives. Lauren got her purple Care Bear that she asked Santa for as well as the Snow White doll she asked for on Christmas Eve. Good thing "Santa" knew she'd like that and already had one for her. :) Her gifts from Santa were mainly CareBear themed--so she loved that. Luke got lots of boy toys: G.I. Joes, StarWars figures, and his favorite the Batman bat cave. 
Lauren and I had fun making cookies for Santa. Of course, we had to taste test them to be sure they were okay. She did leave a few for Santa. She also left him chocolate milk in her CareBear cup and a bib so he wouldn't get his shirt dirty. Funny!
Christmas day we celebrated with family at home. Since Lauren is able to understand about Christmas a little more this year, we tried to make sure to emphasize Christmas as being Jesus' birthday. So a new tradition we started was to make a birthday cake for Jesus and to sing Happy Birthday to him. It's so easy to get caught up in all the gift giving and Santa traditions which are great but this year I felt a real desire to express the true meaning of Christmas to Lauren. We've always read the Christmas story in the Bible, but she was really too young to realize what it is all about. This year she started catching on to the true meaning of Christmas--the gift of Jesus' which gives us hope in this world. One of her SS teachers from church gave her a kid friendly nativity that has each person from the nativity in a box. The seven days before Christmas, she got to open each box and learn about that person and their role in the first Christmas. It's really a neat nativity. She really like it. So hopefully, some of what we learned will stick with her and she'll look forward to it each year.
It may be the end of the Christmas season for everyone, but it's kind of the beginning for us. We head out on the first of January to celebrate with our parents and siblings--kind of an extended Christmas celebration. We can't wait to see them. It's been since late summer/early fall when we saw them last. Here are some pics of the kids at Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The picture of Lauren and Robert in their Batman attire has a story to it. Lauren loves to dress up as Batgirl. We were at Target the other day and she saw Batman pjs in the men's dept and she wanted to get them for her Daddy. She calls it a Batman costume for him instead of pjs. She was so excited about the present that she actually kept telling him what it was before he opened it on Christmas Eve. Silly girl! Enjoy the pics and have a great week!
