Disney Trip: Day 1

We made our first family trip down to Disney World about 2 weeks ago. I know, I know I am just getting things posted!! Crazy busy around here just like you guys probably are too. Anyway, despite June probably being the hottest and busiest time to go, it actually wasn't too hot and although we did wait in line some, we did manage to ride a few rides back to back with no waiting! Amazing, I know!!

So with gas prices being high, we decided to fly which ended up not being that much more. This was also the kids first plane ride. I had the fortunate plane riding duty of Luke!! You know the one who doesn't sit still for longer than 3 seconds and who has no indoor voice. Thankfully he wasn't talking about "crashing" like he often does since he loves to crash trains and cars at home! :) I never heard a peep out of Lauren which was great. They both had the window seat. Luke kept opening and closing the window shade so we were constantly "blinded" by rays of sunlight and then darkness. You'll notice in the pictures that Luke was all about "reading" the What to do in a Water Landing pamphlet! Overall, a good first plane ride for them both!

We got to Disney and checked into our hotel, the Polynesian. If you ever get a chance to stay at the park, the Polynesian is a great resort to stay at. It's a tropical looking resort that makes you feel as if you really are in Hawaii or the tropics.

We didn't go to the park the first day, but we did go to the Spirit of Aloha dinner show at the Polynesian. Ok so that day was really hot when we got there because we were waiting outside the show to go in and we were all sweating. Course that might have to do with two kids who were tired from traveling and really hungry! The food was amazing and the show was spectacular. It was a laua with hula dancers, a fire twirler guy, and lots of good food! Our dessert was a chocolate cake shaped like a volcano with raspberry sauce as lava. Lauren and Luke got to go on stage and learn to hula and then anyone with a birthday in June (Lauren) got to go back on stage to celebrate. A lot of fun!


After the luau, we headed to the resort's pool which had a huge 140 foot long tunneled water slide. We all loved it! We couldn't get the kids off of it that night! Luke would come sliding down it and all you could hear was someone laughing and cackling so loud and then this little bitty, scrawny kid would come out the tunnel with his mouth wide open and splash in the pool. Crazy little boy! After the sun set, the temperature actually cooled off into the 70s quickly. As we waited our turn for the slide, the kids were just shivering all over but kept on sliding anyway!
